Ormonde Racing horses

cap Persian Buddy   Reel Buddy (USA) - Breeze Again (Favorite Trick)

A strapping son of Reel Buddy, Persian Buddy has been off the track for 30 months with a grumbling suspensory ligament.  He is now only a week or so away from running and has schooled beautifully.  We will be aiming him at the supreme novices at Cheltenham.  Watch this space.......

cap Dubai Gem   Fantastic Light (USA) - Reflectance (Sadler's Wells) (USA)

A lovely daughter of Fantastic Light, Dubai Gem has had a few niggling problems that we are now hopeful that we have cured.  She showed some decent form in maiden company as a 3 y-old and all being well she will have retained her ability.  Will be seen to best advantage over distances in excess of 1 1/2 miles, and eventually go novice hurdling.

cap Caldermud  Chineur (FR) - Dalal (Cadeaux Genereux)

A recent acquisition for Ormonde Racing and the first of many horses we will be buying for up and coming young trainer Olivia Maylam.   Caldermud showed decent maiden form for John Best before seeming to go wrong.  Libby and the talented jockey Kylie Manser have taken their time nursing this lovely chestnut gelding back to full health and hopefully he will be seen out over the minimum trip sometime in the new year.

cap Rudiman  Rudimentary (USA) - Bannons Dream (IRE) (Thatching)

A late developer, Rudiman will be running in point to points in Ireland this year before coming over to England next year for a campaign over fences either in novice chases or in hunter chases.  He is a huge horse that has proved difficult to train.  Last season he was with Conor O'Dwyer but after a short spell with Robert Brabazon he is currently out of training.

capIslesman  Oratorio (IRE) - Purple Vision (Rainbow Quest (USA) )

With a pedigree which has always suggested that this beautiful bay gelding would improve with age, Heather Main, his shrewd handler has done really well to win with him twice already, once at Wolverhampton as a juvenile and once at Kempton the following season. A good looking 3 y-old son of Eclipse and Irish Champion Stakes winner Oratorio Islesman's overall profile is one of a horse that prefers the artificial surfaces, but Heather is adamant that he will be just as good on turf as he matures and we are very excited about our recent acquisition.

  Our associates horses

Chocolicious  Kahal - Candy Box (SAF) (Exclusive Patriot (USA) )

What a year for this exciting 2 y-old filly.  Having won her maiden she then ran a good second over 1200m at Scottsville behind a nice type in Romantic Moon.  Re-opposing this one in the  Allan Robertson a gr 1 run over the same course and distance she turned the form around by 10l and won the prestigious race at the very rewarding odds of 55/1.  Herman Brown will be mapping out a schedule for this cracking filly's campaign this year but it is safe to say great things are expected.

Top of the Chocs  Miesques Approval (USA) - Candy Box (SAF) (Exclusive Patriot (USA)

A beautifully bred son of Miesques Approval out of the same dam as Chocolicious the Allan Robertson winner, Top of the Chocs had his first race in Jan 2011 at Clairwood and was never headed over the minimum trip to come home a very comfortable 4l winner.  He has come out of the race very well and will step up in grade now as Herman Brown his trainer thinks he is a pattern race contender.

As well as these horses owned by our connections in S.Africa we have recently started to act as Racing Manager to John Duddy, a well known owner from Northern Ireland who has had horses on his own , or in parnership in Britain since 1999 and has been fortunate enough to win 21 races. These horses included Champagne Shadow, Ticero, Noul, Christiansted, Noverre to Go, Everymanforhimself and, the most talented of these Uhoomagoo, the winner of 17 races from between 5f and 9f, 7 of these in Johns colours including The Beeswing Stakes at Newcastle, The Buckingham Palace Stakes at Ascot, The Vodafone Mile at Epsom and The Michael McNamara &Co Builders H'Cap a £47,000 Premier Handicap run as part of the Galway Festival.

This season John and his partners have their most exciting string for a number of years with 8 horses in 6 different yards.

duddy coloursAmadeus Wolfe Tone  Amadeus Wolf - Slieve (Selkirk (USA))

A striking son of one of this seasons leading sires, Amadeus Wolfe Tone is a €48,000 half brother to the Gp3 Geoffrey Freer winner Cencus. He made his debut in a 6f Wolverhampton maiden that has worked out very well (4 individual winners of 7 races) and was not unduly knocked about.  He was then stepped up to 7f at Chester and was hampered at a critical stage before finishing a respectable 6th of 14.  These two runs however put him spot on and at Chepstow on soft ground he was a revelation, leading from pillar to post and spreadeagling the field.  He then stepped up to handicap company on totally different ground at Warwick and again, prominently ridden, was a good winner eased down by Neil Callan to record a 3/4l victory off a mark of 72.  there is plenty more to come from this very talented 2 y-old.

duddy coloursDickies Lad  Diamond Green (Fr) - Shadow Mountain (Selkirk(USA))

This 20,000gns purchase from Tattesalls Ireland only ran once as a 2 y-old but was a revelation on his 3 y-old debut trouncing a field of maidens by 14 lengths. The ground is a key factor in this horses progress and, when tried on a softer surface next time out he was found wanting. The handicapper gave him 2lb back for that and he dropped down to 5f for the first time off a mark of 88 in a competitive York class 2 handicap. He ran an absolute blinder here finding only stable companion York Glory too good and finishing 2nd of 12 at 28/1. This is a sprinter going the right way and Kevin Ryan expects big things of this gelding this year.

duddy coloursO Ma Lad  Redback - Raydaniya (IRE) (In The Wings)

This chestnut gelding nearly caused an upset on his second run as a juvenile when going down by a head in a Lingfield maiden at odds of 100/1! He, however made no mistake ten months later at the same venue when stepped up to 10f going in at a well backed 3/1. O Ma Lad was upped in class next time out at Leicester and ran very well to be 2nd of 14 to Hot Spice a result which looks even better now, as the vet reported that he was found to be lame in his near fore after the race. There is a suspicion that he is a better horse on artificial surfaces and will be campaigned on them over the winter.

duddy coloursCorr Point  Azamour (IRE) - Naazeq (Nashwan (USA))

This son of Azamour ran three times as a 2 y-old over 7f and was subsequently given a mark of 55 for his handicap debut.  Stepped up to 12f he travelled really well to record a cozy 1 3/4l victory.  He has gone on to win three more times and last time out was a good 2nd over 17f.  He will run a couple more times on the flat before possibly going hurdling next season.

duddy coloursStand Beside Me  Footstepsinthesand - Alegranza (IRE) Lake Coniston(IRE))

This bay gelding a half brother to 3 time winner Regal Raider was unraced at two and three and has now qualified for a handicap mark.  His three runs were over 6f but judging by his pedigree he will appreciate a step up to 7f or even a mile.

duddy coloursCheers  Haafhd - Ziggy Zaggy (Diktat)

Trained on the first 3 occasions by Richard Hannon this bay filly was purchased by John and subsequently put in an improved performance to come 2nd at Wolverhampton when stepped up to 7f by handler Paul Fitzsimons.  This was an encouraging run as she had been off the track for 249 days and it is believed that she will come on again for the run. She is now in the hands of very capable trainer and thorough gentleman Oliver Sherwood.

duddy coloursClaragh Native  Beneficial - Susy In The Summer (IRE) Be My Native (USA))

A 6 y-old chestnut gelding this son of Beneficial has taken time to find himself but landed a gamble at Downpatrick at the end of August in no uncertain fashion barely coming off the bridle to win by 5 1/2 lengths.  He returned to the same track three weeks later off a new mark of 94, 10lb higher than his winning mark, but the ground was slightly tacky and it was this, rather than the revised handicap mark which found him out.  He looked the winner all the way round, jumping economically but found little off the bridle after the second last.  He is better that that and I believe he has a cracking season in front of him.

duddy coloursBlack Eye Friday  Pilsudski (IRE) - Susy In The Summer (IRE) Be My Native (USA))

A brown 4 y-old son of Pilsudski and a half brother to Claragh Native, Black Eye Friday has been pulled up in his first 2 novice hurdle starts andwill probably have to brush up on his jumping a little before being competitive.  His half brother however, was a slow starter who has recently blossomed as a 6 y-old and we have high hopes for this fellow.  He has recently moved from Seamus Durack to Brian Dowling.
